Anybody out there can recomend a phone that has GPRS and a keyboard for Ł330
or under?

Had a Nokia 7650 but it was stolen and the insurers are prepared to go to
Ł330.

Any ideas?

Why not trouser Ł270?

Nearly new Treo 180 can be had for Ł59 unlocked on ebay. Has the advantage
of about the richest set of app available - and being mono - has stupendous
battery life for a smartphone. A phone permanently connected to the internet
with usable POP3 mail and browser. Mine runs PGP, FTP & SSH too so I can
control my servers and (being a tag holder) register nominet domains without
leaving the pub.

Oh, you can make phone calls too ;-)

Pity it doesnt have BT or expansion and you will need small thumbs - but
there you are - you can afford to throw it as soon as something decent comes
along (the Treo 600s successor maybe?).

Sounds like a proper piece of kit with that software. Whats the OS?

Managing my servers form the pub like a dream come true.

Insurers are kindly going to buy it for me. They work with a bespoke company
with massive buying power who just buy things to replace stolen items. Tuff
work.

PalmOS 3.5. Standard Palm with a GPRS phone. Click on an networked app - and
it automatically connects in a few secs - or sometimes you can go for hours
and a hundred miles without dropping the connection. No traffic, no charge.

The awkward bit is that as the screen is 160x160 you cant run VT20
emulation under SSH. But with a bit of forethought you can set things up to
get around that. Which means almost anything that runs under Linux - I can
run on my servers from my Treo. Or you can directly ping, traceroute etc
with a mixture of freeware and nominally priced software.

Helps if you have good eyesight. The flip on the 180 is not liked by some -
but unlike the much more expensive Treo 600 - means you dont need a case
and sharing a pocket with a bunch of keys is not tragic ;-)

Its the most useful bit of mobile kit I have. Its wonderfully unfashionable
and if I lost or bent it - it wont hurt the pocket.

Oh - and because you have all these other internet features - plus decent
PDA websites - my bandwidth needs are very, very light for the work I do on
it. Ł4/month 3Mb bundle on Orange does me nicely.

But of course - if you must have a camera, polyphonic ringtones, pearl
encrusted covers etc - you will need to look elsewhere ;-)

As the other poster mentioned, the Treo180 is great, and very cheap. The
Treo 600 has more features, but is more expensive. A Blackberry is perfect
if you do a lot of email.

Also consider the Nokia 6810 and similar - looks like a regular Nokia phone
but folds out for a full QWERTY keyboard. Or a 9210i - bit of a brick but
great to use as a mobile office.

Insurers would not get Blackberrys or Treos. I think you can only buy
these new if you have a contract with Orange for the Treo? and some other
for the Blackberry.

Im on Voda

Have gone for the Nokia 6820 .

Fingers crossed.

Thanks
