Just back from my holiday and I switch on my Philips CellnetU phone to find
the following error on screen:

IMSI failed

When I try dialling out it says not allowed

This phone was working fine a few weeks ago, before I went away.. Can anyone
tell me whats going on?

There was around 30 pounds credit on it, last time I used it.

Help

Who can I contact to sort this out?

Yan

Sounds like the number has been reclaimed by O2 due to non-use. Nothing you
can do unfortunately.

So you constitute 2 weeks of inactivity as non-use do you JP?
Are we not allowed a holiday now then?

I now have no phone in order for people to contact me, and everone who ring
me only have this number....

If this is how O2 treat their customers, I would recommend you all steer
clear.

have you made or received a chargable call within the last 2 months or
topped up in the last 3 months? If so then it could be a temporary network
fault, or the handset has been reported stolen by someone. Either way, call
O2 on 08705 678678 to see whats going on.

Youve been cut-off.

O2 customer services would probably be a good start.

My girlfriend and her sister bought these phones about 5 years ago. A
couple of weeks ago her sisters phone came up with IMSI Failed and
stopped working, then a few days ago my GFs phone did the same thing.
Its almost as though O2 are stopping use of these phones, which is
annoying cause the tarif is 5p a textmessage. Any one else had this
problem?

This happens if you swap the cards around on U-phones
Try swapping them back

What top posting utter, utter Bollocks!!!

You cant swap BT Cellnet U SIMS around as they are GID1 locked to the
phones that they came with!!

If you havnt used the U phone for a while they disconnect them and will not
reconnect them for you when you complain (IME), I have a couple of phones
just like that in the draw.

BT Cellnet/O2 Again!! (conning gits) read other posts here.
