Dont laugh, but my wife has an old Cellnet Easylife pay as you go
handset with Ł30 credit. She only uses it very occasionally - so the
credit tends to increase every year. The handset is a Philips brick
and about twice as big as the average current phone.

Is there any way to move her credit over to a more modern handset /
tariff+handset? The SIM is not the same size as current ones.

I suspect the answer is no but hope to be wrong!

TIA

Pete

If youre very careful and line it up right, you can cut the old card
down to the size of a new type. The easiest way to do it would be to use
the bit that a new SIM card is popped out of as a template to mark the
correct position with a pen, place a new SIM on top, and cut around it
carefully with a sharp knife. You may find this card will be slightly
thicker than a proper mini SIM, but it will work if you are careful. I
did it once and it worked fine.

Yeah, no problem. Just go into any reputable phone shop and theyll sort you
out.

The number and credit will take about 14 days to go onto the new sim card
though........

Simon

PS: The tariff will change also to your benefit.

I did that for a customer who just couldnt wait at the weekend. Turned out
his 5 year old sim in his Diga was not compatible with the 6610i he wanted.
So he has to wait the 14 days anyway.

Why does it take 14 days to punch a few numbers into a computer?

Even if you cut the SIM down carefully it wont work as the SIM and
Phone are locked together on Easylife.

Easylife SIMs are programmed only to work in the original handset they
were supplied with, so in this case it will not work.

Your best bet would be to sell the Philips Diga on Ebay. I believe the
easylife tariff had 12p texts even when abroad.
