Hi All,

Im trying to get the built-in email client on a Nokia 6230 to talk to
Vodafone Mail via GPRS.

I can get it receive mail from both POP3 and IMAP4 no problem, but I
cannot get it to send (via SMTP) at all. I have the SMTP connection
settings setup in the same way as the POP3/IMAP4 settings, but when
trying to send, it connects, gets as far as sent 0 of 1 messages and
then gives me Sending failed.

Has anyone got this working? If so, how do you have SMTP setup?

Thx.

Hi Phil,

Im using smtp.vodafone.net - basically following the instructions in
the FAQ for setting up an email client.

In order to get POP3 and IMAP4 to receive, I had specify internet as
the GPRS access point under Bearer Settings (got this setting from my
general GPRS settings), but doing the same for SMTP doesnt seem to work.

Do you have it working? If so, I can post a full list of my settings
for comparison.

try send.vodafone.net instead

if the GPRS connection was already live from POP3 activity it should
just go on to connect to SMTP so I think its the server thats adrift.

If you google for send.vodafone.net (use the Groups option) you will
see plenty of traffic about this.

A MailMeAnywhere.com triallist reported send.vodafone.net also works even
when using a third party mobile email service.

(and I was on the receiving end of the test message!)

Phil,

Absolutely spot on - changed the SMTP server to send.vodafone.net and it
worked first time!

Brilliant - thanks a lot for your help, much appreciated!

(I wonder why Vodafone dont document this - I guess its because they
really want people to use Vodafone Live to access their mail...)

the only restriction I have read about is to Vodafone IP space, was
the triallist connecting with vodafone at the time ?

They do... if you have a Vodafone.net e-mail address... you can log in and
click on Help, then select accessing Vodafone Mail via your email client

Itll tell you to use smtp.vodafone.net and use your username and password
to authenticate. At the bottom, theres a note that says that if your
email client doesnt support SMTP
authentication then use send.vodafone.net as the outgoing server.
