Can anyone help please?

Sons got a Motorola V500 and hes now saying its broken. Whatever he
tries - whether it be an outgoing call or else receiving a call - nothing
comes out of the earpiece; when he switches to the hands free mode, tho,
alls OK. Its only a year or so old but hes now after another one!! Has
he somehow managed to disable to earpiece and, for example, put it in some
mode (car etc.) that does this? Having only had Nokia phones, I couldnt
find anything obvious!!
