Can you specialists please advice me. I want to use my mobiles free
off-peak minutes to talk to another person on his landline.

However, if the other persons landline is engaged then I would like
to dial his landline from my own BT landline and set Ringback.

When his line becomes free then my own landline will ring. At that
point I can use my mobile to call him.

(1) When does his landline actually start to ring? Is it *before*
or *after* I pick up my own ringing handset?

(2) If I pick up my ringing handset and drop it back immediately
then will the other person hear any rings?

(3) If I dont answer my ringing landline then can I still get
through to the other person on my mobile? What would happen to my
Ringback setting in such a case?

thanx - Lem

Not sure - The idea is that when his phone becomes free then the sys tells
you by ringing your phone to alert you that the line is free. When you
pick up the phone you will hear a ringing tone which then activates HIS
phone. If you do not pick up your phone then HIS will remain silent. The
ringback feature only tries the line for around 45 mins AFAIK.

Experiment with it and see

Not sure what happens if you dont answer. Presumably your phone will
stop ringing after a set interval, as it would (eventually) on an
unanswered incoming call. Id find it pretty annoying waiting for that
to happen. I suppose you could call your friend from the mobile, then
pick up and replace the handset of the landline phone, by which time the
line will be engaged again.

This strategy is unlikely to save you a lot of money as Ring Back costs
15p a time (you can also pay Ł5.25 a quarter for unlimited use). Youre
charged as soon as it calls you back. As far as I know, the one-off
charge applies whether or not the request results in a successful call.

Id have thought it would be a lot easier just to keep trying on your
mobile!
