I recently lost my phone with an O2 on-line SIM. This was on a SIM only
contract. A bar on incoming and outgoing calls was placed on the SIM. I
have received a replacement SIM and called customer services to activate
it/remove the bar. Nearly 24 hours later it is still not working.

How long should it take to activate?

I didnt think to ask when I phoned and the information wasnt offered. I
havent rung back because they use a 0870 call-centre number (=not cheap)
and from experience will keep me on hold for 10-15 minutes before
transfering me to a real person. I posted the question here since, if
others experience is that it usually takes 48 hours, then I would be
wasting my time & money calling.

Andrew, in future use http://www.saynoto0870.com for any company with an
expensive number.

There is, in fact, 0800 numbers for o2, in which you could ask to get passed
through to the relevant department. Choose your number carefully though,
some of the o2 ones are for carphone warehouse only etc; but a few are good
for you!

OK, maybe not cheap is being a bit of an exaggeration. However, its more
than the free (inclusive) for an 01 number!
