Hi -

Ive been very happy with my work 6310i for years, using a CARK-91 car kit,
and Ive resisted every round of upgrades since then. But, the phone has
recently started getting a bit flakey (powers itself down when handled -
loose battery I imagine).

Today I managed to wheedle a factory-sealed spare handset from the ICT Comms
people, and carried it off with glee. Unfortunately, when I swapped the sim
card & battery over to the new unit, it wouldnt work in the car. Please
could someone just confirm whether Im missing something?

The new phone semi-recognises when its plugged into the car socket - I know
this because it displays the Car profile Ive created, the battery charge
indicator goes, and any keypad lock is disabled.

But, no sound comes through - no keypad tones, no ringing tone, and no voice
when the other party picks up. They also cant hear me, I dont think.
All I hear on the speakers is the periodic bzzt-bzzzt-bzzzt of the phones
radio signals.

When I swap back to the old 6310i, it works perfectly. I hear a telltale
gentle pop over the speaker when I insert & remove the phone, and can hear
all calls as previously.

I have three theories -

- Ive forgotten to activate or enable something on the new phone (prayers)
- The new phone is faulty from new (curses)
- The base of the new phone isnt quite engaging with the CARK-91 contacts,
which have perhaps over time become worn into the profile of the old phone.
Maybe I need a new CARK-91 cradle, or maybe I can gently tweak this with
jeweler-sized tools?

Would greatly appreciate advice from the learned members of this group.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Steve
Start with the bleeding obvious or sometimes not!
Have you removed the antenna connector bung from the back of the phone -
this is where the external antenna connects, the bung is in there as std and
unless removed, not only does the antenna not connect, but the phone doesnt
locate correctly in the cradle!

John.

Yes, I removed it - but only after failing to notice the bleeding obvious
the first time..... :o).

Im sure that the new phone was fully clipped into place.

Thanks for taking the time to reply - appreciated

Given that you cant fully clip the phone in place without removing the
bung, I would think very few people would not realise this ;-)

Another thing to try is cleaning the contacts on the base of the phone.
They can get covered in gunge after a while, mine somehow mysteriously got
covered in chocolate once, I cant for the life of me figure out how ;-)
Use a clean slightly moist cloth and give them a good wipe. This can clear
up a lot of intermittent problems.

Also check the connector from the cradle into the control box, assuming
the latter is somewhere where you can get at it (mine is under the
drivers seat). This can also become intermittent so unplug and replug
this a couple of times if cleaning the contacts doesnt help.

Hope this helps,

Ivor

Brand new handset, Ivor - shiny new

It works fine with the other handset, so not likely to be a problem there

> Hope this helps,

It doesnt, but its welcome anyway - still have my fingers crossed that
someone will have a miracle solution.

For the interest of anyone who reads this now, it was a faulty handset.
Swapped for another one, which immediately worked fine. Advice on another
web forum suggests that dry solder joints to terminals isnt uncommon on
recent 6310s.

Thanks to those who replied, much appreciated
