Can anyone suggest a place to get a Riiing top-up card? I know you can
go to their website, but Im not keen on giving them my CC details.

I would guess that would only be for the UK. Freedom/Riiing use a
Liechtenstein based sim, and 0044 use an Isle of Man one, generally
based on the small size of the area covered by the countries resulting
in the users often roaming.

There is a joke when the plane lands at Ronaldsway the pilot advises
you to turn your watch back to the 1950s, and Vaduz looks like
something out a Leonard Willerby novel. However, both are finanancial
centres with may foreign workers due to the tax haven status, so the
phone systems are set up well.

The issue that bothered me most was both charge for russia (yet belarus
was ok, as was most of the other nearby ex USSR states.

With the 0044 one you are basically calling an IOM mobile, which AFAIK
is included in some UK inclusive minutes - whereas Liechtenstein
obviously is not. So to call someone in the UK basically you text them
(for 6p) and get them to call you. So massively cheaper, especially if
they are calling to your room using one of the companies charging just
a connection, or 1 or 2p a min. instead of almost thirty quid an hour.

Downsides are no WAP/GPRS or if you use it picture messaging, so you
still need your UK sim for that.
