Looking cravenly for free online texts, I registered with
www.sms-txt.co.uk. Dont bother with them. Its a scam. They dont
charge you, they charge your recipient! They dont send your text, the
receiver gets a text notification to contact a number in order to
receive your message! No warning of this, either. I suspect that your
poor recipient may well receive more than just your message from them,
too. Bleah.

At the time of posting, cardboardfish www.cbfsms.com (no registration
necessary, no daily SMS limit) is still hardly ever available, probably
due to hordes of kids sending rude messages to each other.

In fact, a box on cardboardfish claims that I cant send because they
have banned access from my ISP due to abuse. Looks like Genietexter
for me. Ill report back after trying it out. Any other suggestions? I
know O2.co.uk old email accounts still fairly reliable, but now only
offer 10 free uk texts a month.

O.

I used to (or should that be used to try to??) use various free
websites but just gave it up as a bad cause!

Most of the time if you were lucky to get the message it would be
delivered some six hours too late! Asking your mates if they fancy
going to the pub at 04:00 does not look good!

Nowadays I use http://www.bulksms.co.uk/ and pay for the text, it
works out bang on 5p for each message but in all the time I have used
it I cant remember one message that failed to get to the recipient.

Although it DOES warn of a Ł5 charge to the recipient for non standard
texts at the foot of the site, a fuller answer (which I just posted in
another thread) came from a reply to my email:

It says...

--------------------------------
As regards the Ł5 charge mentioned on the footer on the website -
when a person sends a message through our website, the recipient has the
choice either to read it via our website, or directly on
their phone. Most people opt to read it through the website, since the
charge to read it is only 50p, however, to read it via their phone, it costs
a premium of Ł5. Very few people actually opt to pay Ł5 to read a message,
as you can imagine, unless its life-or-death :)... However, its ICSTIS
regulations to list this price on the website.
--------------------------------

I think if I started sending SMS to my friends that cost them either 50p or
Ł5 to receive, Id soon have no friends!*

So, to clarify, you get to send a text for free, in return, the recipient
has to get to a pc, log on, pay 50p, and can then read it online.
Bargain. I think Ill stick to 5p/6p/free from my phone/skype/o2 thanks!

(*Yes, OK, Ill do the obvious joke: Well, Id only have to send one text
then!. *yawn*)

If you both have to get to a PC is it not better just to send an email ?
Webmail is free.

Particularly nasty scam, would hope PayPal would look at removing his
donate button, its in no way a FREE text.

Perhaps one of the people who have been scammed would like to make a
compalint to Trading Standards.

Nominet might look unfavourably at registering the domain as an
individual either.

Whois record shows;

Domain name:

Quck search on postcode shows this site which is also registrants name
on record for sms-txt:

http://www.openmerchantaccount.com/

This gives an address as:

26 Glenview avenue,

Same Postcode , same registrant , different address, perhaps someone
could phone and ask, can I have my fiver back please, pass it on:

As an addendum, emphasis on the dumb.
Jonathan your reply to your email from Mr Fiach Reid, would seem with a
fair certainty to be the same person who authored

Network programming in .NET: C# & Visual Basic .NET

Would you take programming advice from this man. Fair to say reviews on
Amazon are mixed, specially as mentioned by a reviewer his
disfunctional website contact us button even yields the message

Please use FireFox to view this page

http://network.programming-in.net shares its registrant and admin
details with

www.openmerchantaccount.com

Looks like it may just be admin details from a hosting comany:

Domain name: programming-in.net

Pulling Open Merchant Account Ltd on www.companieshouse.gov.uk during
daytime hours, would give registered office for by implication
sms-txt.co.uk.

Beats counting sheep.
