Im using 1899.com and wonder if H3G charge and if so how much for 08081
prefixes.

Best I could find was ...

http://www.three.co.uk/BlobServer.srv?blobdir=ImportantDoc&blobfile=Mid+August+Price+Plan+.pdf

0808 that are not on THA list
Off peak 1000 - 35p peak and 15p off peak.
All other pay monthly and pay as you go plans 15p

So it would seem stick to the landline for International calls.
Any other suggestions from the Telco gurus ;)

TIA

Why not use a cheap call provider like www.18185.co.uk that gives you
access via a geographical number you can use out of your inclusive
minutes..Although yes a landline would be cheaper.

I have no idea what they charge, sorry. However, I use 02002220700
which is charged out of inclusive minutes to dial freephone numbers,
which is what 0808 numbers are.

1899 being part of the same Finarea group as 18185 also offer a geographic
number that the OP could use:
02081 804 804

Benedict.
