I have regretfully just moved to T-Mobile from Orange.

I find the call quality terrible in comparison. The audio seems to be
severly compressed with the start and end of words chopped off. Gaps in the
speech etc.

Has anyone else had this experience. I thought it might be the new handset
so I tried the T-Mobile sim in my old handset and have the same problem.

It is a problem with T-Mobile (and virtuals) but *only* when using 3G. If
you are experiencing problems aside from 3G call quality then there is a
problem elsewhere.

I dont use 3G on T-Mobile because of this very problem. My call quality
other than 3G is excellent and as good as Orange or O2.

Gareth.

Strangely, I have the same problem but in reverse. T-Mobile seems fine
but the company mobile on Orange can be dreadful. :-(

I am unimpressed with call quality in general. My old company phone
was T-mobile, and I have a Virgin SIM on the same network. I felt
that both bandwidth and dynamic range were very poor.

My new company phone is O2. Bandwidth seems fine but dynamic range
is even worse. You can hear clipping if people speak loudly, and
dealling with call centre people who gabble to keep their call rate up
is all but impossible.

The best results are with either sim in my old motorola timeport.
Modern ultra-minature phones do not produce good audio anyway, all the
design effort having gone into other stupid features, but I think that
you are probably right about the networks being pretty ropey too.
