In our area Orange has been going downhill in the last year or so as to
quality or reliability.

I want to change to T-Mobile and called Orange to transfer my number and
they started the usual about valued customer, special deal ...

She then mentioned that the older phones used 2G which now were being
run down (hence the wose quality) while a new phone of my choice would
use 3G and be much better.

Does this make any sense and is it true?

My existing phone is an SE K750i and the replacement a K800i.

I have a K800i on orange (having upgraded from a K750i) I found the 3G
coverage was worse in MANY places and the phone would often fail to
revert to using 2G, this lead to missed calls, Ive since turned off 3G
capability within the menus ...

It may do in the unusual event that your local 2G cell was removed and
replaced with a 3G only cell. In your case though it sounds like
bollocks.

Is that something they are planning to do? Will this mean that EDGE phones
have a very limited lifespan? I know that the telecon companies paid a lot
for their 3G license so I assume they are keen for us to use it.

Cheers, Rob.

There should be a law against it :)

Thanks.

I can only speak for one network, but this is certainly not the case.

Theres certainly an emphasis on rolling out 3G on most (I wont say all)
new sites, but 2G coverage is also being maintained. Very much so. Its
still being rolled out in many areas.

Id concur with Jon on this 2G being run down being sales talk.

Jon.
