Can anyone recommend a method for creating and installing your own
ringtones, preferably by uploading to a website and then downloading
directly to your phone, which works in the UK?

Ive found sites and programs which offer this service - including Phonezoo
and MonkeyBongo, which latter seems to claim to be OK for the UK - but cant
get either to function with my Samsung C300 on Vodafone PAYG.

Any help and advice would be gatefully received. Thanks.

Bert

That depends on the format you want. I just use Audacity to generate short
clips from various format audio files, save the clip in mp3 format and
upload it to my phone, no need to mess with websites, although I guess my
phone would probably accept one that way.

Dave,

Thanks for the reply. I have an MP3 file that Id like to use, but the
problem is that I have no way to upload it to my phone other than via a
website. The Samsung C300 doesnt seem to be designed for such
sophisticated goings-on.

I get tunes in midi format from my computer, which I load onto the phone.

Original source can be from the web or compositions saved as midi in
Sibelius. I think other music software also allows compositions to be
saved as midi.

You have described the method in your first paragraph. No need to
involve a specialist company for this, just use the webspace that comes
free with your internet connection (assuming you have any of course).

Yes, I have my own website. Im afraid I know next to nothing about
internet access on a mobile: will my phones browser (a) be able to connect
me to my own site, and (b) allow me to download an MP3 file from there?

And if I am able to download it, is it a straightforward procedure to be
able to use it as a ringtone?

Many thanks,

LATER...

I just tried going to my own homepage. I get the message Not acceptable.
Everyones a critic...

There is a reasonable freeware solution - Anvil Studios - allows you to
compose quite complex stuff. The freeware version has a one minute
limit per composition, plenty for a ringtone.

(Sibelius is exellent but expensive).

Getting it to your phone - no idea but others wil probably be able to
help.

Indeed. My partner is a composer.

I havent a clue about the OPs phone. I have a Motorola phone which
needed a USB cable (standard mini-USB: can also use Canon camera cable)
and specific Motorola software, which has a file transfer studio
functionality.
