I have a Nokia 6210 which is displaying SIM error STOP. I have tried
known good sim cards from all 4 networks. I have also run Eeprom Tools
v4 and the 6210 is passing the various tests so I think the eeprom is
not corrupt.

I get the SIM error STOP message a few seconds after switch on -
there is no other messages such as Registering etc.

With no sim installed , I get the usual Insert Sim message.

I have searched the net but not found any answers.

Maybe the 6210 needs to be reflashed? Maybe its a hardware problem? I
checked for obvious problems but nothing stands out. The internal
backup battery was a bit corroded and was reading 1.7v. Maybe the
corrosion indicates some water damage but the PCB looks clean. The LCD
is missing a horizontal line at the top but I dont think this is the
cause of the SIM error STOP message.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I had sim errors on the first N6120c I got from 3UK and sent it back, but
when the new N6120c arrived it had the same problem. Ended up it was a
faulty SIM Card, 1st time Id ever seen that problem.

Remember Nokias are prone to loose batteries, try putting a sim card on top
of the battery before closing the back cover and see if it improves it?
Worth a try and if its not that, just send everything back.

Read it again - slowly. ;-)

The OP is talking about the old 6210, so your advice doesnt apply.

Ive not seen that error very often on a 6210 (or cant remember seeing it),
but from what I can remember, the last one was down to a hardware fault.

Thanks for the feedback.

Any idea which hardware fault causes SIM error STOP? CCONT faults
seem to get mentioned for causing several faults?

Cheers.

No idea to be honest, its a very long time since I had to do any work on
one. To be brutally frank, its not worth the effort for a 6210 (and Id
not even bother trying to track down the fault on a 6310i).

Is the 6210 of the OP a different phone from your 6120?

True - but I like the challenge of getting old phones working :)
Interestingly, very few of the old phones Ive collected have hardware
failures but this is my 2nd 6210 which is duff!! :(
