Im leaving Orange. I know I have to call for a PAC to port my number.

Cant call tonight as of course CS is closed.

When I do get through, how does it work? Do they post it to me, and does
it take long? Do they need chasing?

generally comes a few days later in the post. The ones ive requested
have come with no problems and no chasing needed.

If your lucky youll get someone wholl give you the pac code over the
phone...maybe he didnt realise hes not meant to do that tho!?!

Yes, they refused to give or text it to me. They cited the Data
Protection Act, which is of course rubbish.

1) they get money from me for longer 2) they can write me a begging
letter, I expect.

They offered me a good deal, but Im not staying!

I had the same experience. It took nearly a week for the letter to
arrive, and a few days after that for the number to be activated by the
new service. I also got phone calls and letters trying to persuade me to
stay, of course. I first asked in an Orange shop, but they told me I had
to phone customer support as the shops arent able to deal with such
things.

Eventually I got an account from Orange with a cheque for the final credit
balance in my monthly account :))

Funnily enough, theyve contacted me TWICE today!

First time was a text to ask me to call 244, to answer a customer survey
about my experience yesterday.

Then, not 5 minutes ago, a courtesy call to tell me my PAC code (sic)
has been posted, and to ask if there is anything at all else they can do
for me (do I hear the sound of grovelling?).

Rubbish, quite. Nothing to do with DPA, its just company policy.
