Hi

I want to buy a Samsung phone (dont ask), but it has to have
excellent reception. At home I get two bars if Im lucky on most of
the ground floor, so I need something with excellent RF performance.
My current dilapidated Motorola will happily make calls there, so I
know its possible. Ive just tried out an E590 which was terrible and
just wouldnt work at all, sent back with a flea in its ear. Ive read
reviews of the G600 which say that signal strength is a weakness, so
dont want one of those.

So can anyone point me to a Samsung with strong reception? It doesnt
have to be a current model, so long as its available from some dodgy
geezer on Ebay.

(A quick bit of research directed me to the A990 as having good
reception

However, this does not seem to be stocked even by Ebays dodgiest
geezers. I think its a US model, anyone know the UK equivalent?)

Cheers!

Martin

It cant be done. In my experience (coming up for 10 years) Samsungs
have to this very day aloways had notably poorer RF performance than
their competitors. I have no idea why that should be so.

Thats a US CDMA phone, its a whole other thing. There likely
wont be an equivalent which works in the UK.

Samsung makes quite decent CDMA phones, but the reputation of
their GSM models is awful. You might have some difficulty
finding what you want.

A lot of it is in the printed tuned shapes aerial designs.

Until recently Ericsson also had problems in this area

Motorola have had lifetimes of experience in RF design

Although I hate Motorola ergonomics, if RF performance was my
first priority I would always go for Motorola.

Slightly off topic, Im very pleased with the reception of my Nokia N82.
GSM, 3G, GPS, and WiFi all work *very* well with this phone!

You probably dont want to hear this, but IMHO Motorola mobiles have
excellent RF performance. Over the years I have evaluated most makes,
although admittedly not Samsung, and the Motorolas have always been
able to hold a signal where others have failed.

Pity about the user interface though.
