Im going to Spain in a couple of weeks and I have a couple of
questions about call diverts:

1) I was under the impression that if I go abroad, with my new
vodafone next generation voicemail enabled, I wont be charged when
calls are sent back to voicemail in the UK. Is this correct? Or is the
charging the same as when
they had the old mailbox system voicemail?

I thought maybe theyd changed things and stopped charging as when
friends of mine have been abroad and Ive rung them instead of hearing
a foreign ring you get a UK-style ring. Maybe when someone calls you
theyre connected to a system which in turn rings the person your
calling; after xx seconds stopping the ringing and handing over to
voicemail, rather than the foreign network diverting to voicemail.
Therefore no charges?

Each person at CS seems to say something different with regards to
cost varying from
no charges at all;
outgoing charges for a divert back to the UK and
incoming charge to the foreign network and then outgoing charge back
to the
UK?!

2) If Im now in Spain and want to set a permament divert (*21*
+44.....#) will that divert be set at vodafone UK and hence be paid
for by my inclusive minutes? Was thinking that 3s 10p per min for
incoming would save me a bit!

Can anyone help clarify anything?

Many Thanks

As I understand it, if you set an unconditional divert when at home then it
makes no difference if youre abroad or not, as the divert happens before any
attempt to contact your phone.

But if you set a conditional divert (on busy/no answer etc) then you get stung
for incoming and outgoing roaming rates, as the foreign network does the
divert.

But if youre abroad already and set an unconditional divert Im not sure - it
could be that the divert instruction is set on the foreign network so you end
up
paying.

I am on Virgin, when we went abroad last June Virgin told me to divert all
calls to voicemail before you leave the country. That way I would not be
charged to receive a voicemail, however it does mean you will not get any
incoming calls. If I decided to ring my voicemail then I would be charged at
the roaming rate. If you wait until you arrive at your destination to divert
to voicemail then it would be treated as an international roaming call and
you would incur the roaming rate.
