i dont need to prove it was reported, if you believe it wasnt or have
evidence to show it wasnt then you have to report this to the police,
otherwise you are guilty under the criminal justice act 1998 of failing to
prevent crime (a duty all UK citizens are legally bound to perform (without
comprimising their own safety of course))


but as the law says and still says, if the person who owned and lost it
doesnt claim it with proof of ownership, the lost item becomes the property
of the person who found it.
so it did indeed belong to the seller, as you canNOT provide any evidence to
the contrary.

stolen.
state you have no evidence to prove it wasnt reported as a found item.
