Is it possible to get a new sim card from Orange PAYG and have it assigned
to an existing number?

Background - Lost one phone with credit card size sim, have another
identical phone which takes large sim, but want to retain original number
with its credits.

All help will be greatly appreciated.

Simply buy a new Orange PAYG phone and register it as an upgrade.

Hi,

I take on board your comments, but why buy another phone when already have
spare?

May I ask for further details on your comment of upgrade please.

If you buy just a new SIm card you will not be allowed to keep the same
number.

How long ago was that though? And where was the new SIM from? If more than a
month or so ago, then they probably transferred the details by the Number
Retention method, which isnt used any more. Theres now an automatic option
for processing upgrades on PAYG accounts - they just choose the Upgrade
option and type the new SIM & IMEI details, etc. in.

The old method involved making a note of how much credit and what services
there were on the old account, and then terminating the account and
connecting the new phone and SIM on a new account and crediting it
accordingly. Using this method, there would have been the opportunity to
just type in any old unregistered SIM number and connect it on the old
number.

With the new method, I believe (and I may be wrong) that it uses IMEI-SIM
pairing, and so SIM only connection packs wont work as upgrade SIM
references. There will be ways around this, but whether or not the CSR you
speak to will be willing to use them, I doubt - as any erroneous
transactions do get reported to their supervisors!

Hmm, interesting. It was sometime around last April or May, just before I
had the blasted phone stolen..! As I recall, the SIM was a spare
unregistered one I just happened to have lying around.
